Fractal Contest Rules

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 7, 2006, 7:20 AM
  • Listening to: My next door neighbour singing
  • Reading: MASM text book.....

Updates

:pointr: So.. I accidentally deleted the rules! Sorry for confusing a few of you! Here they are, as best as I can remember:

:pointr: Contest entries so far (Page 1, Page 2)

The Theme

The theme is Diptych, Triptych and Polyptych Fractals.

Diptych means an image made of 2 panels, Triptych is one made of 3 panels, Polyptych is an image made of 4 or more panels. A fractal is an image made using a fractal program such as Apophysis, Chaoscope, Fractal Explorer, MBF, Vchira, Tierazon... So specifically, the contest is to make a Dip/Trip/Polyp-tych using fractal images

Entering

Send me (=twodimensions) a note, with the subject "Contest Entry", and a link to your entry, before midnight, December 20 (Perth time).

You may enter up to three deviations. You may send each entry in the same, or seperate notes if you wish.

Prizes

:pointr: I will add all prize winners to my watch list. All winners will also be featured in the following journals:

First prize wins:
- A 3 month subscription
- A customised journal skin, by me
- 5 A4 prints, chosen from my gallery*

Second prize wins:
- A 1 month subscription
- 5 4x6 prints, chosen from my gallery*

Third prize wins:
- 5 4x6 prints, chosen from my gallery*

* These prints will be printed on photo paper, and posted by myself, and not via the dA print service

Judging

Judging will be a collaborative effort by myself (a fractal artist), =scott5353 (a good friend and fractal critic) and ^Aeires (fractal artist, and the digital art gallery director).

Judging will take some time, as there are already alot of entries. A shortlist of entries should be announced within a fortnight of the competition closing. Prize winners will be announced 1-2 weeks later.

Some other criteria and F.A.Q

Resolution
Please make your deviation reasonably high resolution so we can see some detail. As a bare minimum each panel making up your triptych should be 400x400 pixels.

Postworking
Postworking on your fractals (such as colour adjusting and anti-aliasing) is allowed but should be minimal. Your fractal should still be obvious, and the main focus of the image. Please specify in your images description what postworking has been done.

Framing
You can frame each panel of your image in the framing style of your choice. (This includes not framing them at all).

bananas, anyone?
Question: do the fractals have to be new, or can we use some already made ones?

And I don't mean already made polyptych-thingies, I mean using older fractals to create one.

Hey, MATLAB creates wicked cool heightmaps of fractals, too! :D Go, 3d!
